Faith, family and friendship: Adventures for middle grade

About Amanda

Amanda Poppe wrote her first book at age nine. “Glassy’s Adventures” was printed on a dot-matrix printer, bound in a grey Duo-Tang folder and became a popular addition to her school’s library. Amanda dreams of duplicating that run-away success.

She was born in Western Australia, and moved to Canada at the age of five. Staunchly loyal to her birth country, at school assemblies she would sing “Oh Australia!” during the Canadian anthem.

When she wasn’t climbing trees, she was reading books in her dad’s study, her favorite room in the whole house with its floor-to-ceiling shelves full of award-winning children’s literature.

She never grew out of kids’ books, and when she became a mum, she had the perfect excuse to keep reading them – out loud – to her children. Humorous, fast-paced stories kept her boys’ interest and now these are the types of stories she likes to write.

Amanda is passionate about instilling a love of books in children. She speaks to parenting groups, school communities, and anyone who will listen about the importance of reading aloud to kids.

In 2014, she followed her pastor husband back to Australia, trading the Rocky Mountains for ocean beaches. One day she hopes to hike the entire Cape-to-Cape trail.

Amanda’s short stories have been published in the 2019 “Fantastic Realms” anthology and the 2024 “Sea Gift” anthology. Sign up for her email newsletter and receive a free short story, book recommendations for young readers, and updates on her work.
